Measurement of Protease Activity using FRET
This part Consists of 3 biobricks, namely Cyan Fluorescent Protein, HIV Cleavage Site and Yellow Fluorescent Protein. The cleavage site is specific to HIV 1 Aspartyl Protease. The two proteins form a FRET pair. FRET stands for Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer. It is a phenomenon is which excitation of one protein leads to emission from the other, due to overlapping wavelengths. The two proteins need to be close together for this to take place. In our project we make use of this to measure the protease activity of HIV 1 Aspartyl Protease.
